Greatly influenced by its average altitude of 3,000m (9,843 ft) and the monsoons coming from the Indian Ocean, the climate of Nyingchi is pleasantly temperate and humid. The annual average temperature is 8.7 C, with the highest in summer being somewhere between 20 C -30 C and the lowest in winter above -10 C. The climate is a tropical semi-humid one, with annual rainfall as high as 650mm (26 inches) mostly occurring from March to September. However, though weather is not that disruptive to travels to the central Nyingchi, visits to southeastern areas such as Pome and Dzayul are best made from May to June or September to October to avoid mud slides and road collapses which largely happen in the rainy seasons of July and August. Moreover, treks to <a href="/nyingchi/pemako.htm">Pemako</a>, which is accessible only from June to October, are advisable during August to October.
